Sphere rolling down hill

Student 3057 9 years ago updated by Physics Tutorial Center Staff 9 years ago 1

A 240 N solid sphere .2 m in radius rolls without slipping 6 m down a ramp that is inclined at 37 degrees with the horizontal. What is the angular speed of the sphere at the bottom of the slope if it starts from rest?

Should I just set the kinetic energy equal to the change in potential energy and the use that v to get the angular speed?

Yes, the kinetic energy is equal to the change in potential energy. and since it is not a point mass,

KE = 1/2 m*v^2+1/2 I* w^2, where v=r*w (no-slip condition)

Hope this helps!
