Why is there an energy gap for potential energy for a paramagnet?
I know that there is a potential energy difference in paramagnets of deltaU = 2*mu_B*B.
Since deltaU is (Umax-Umin), what do Umax and Umin correspond to? Or do I have all of this wrong?

The potential energy difference corresponds the total spin up and spin down configuration inside the material.
