Magnetic field from two intersecting wires

Student 3057 9 years ago updated by Physics Tutorial Center Staff 9 years ago 1

A wire on the x-axis with a current of .7 A in the positive x direction intersects with a wire on the y-axis with a current of .4 A in the negative y direction. How do the magnetic fields at points (2,2) and (-2,2) compare and what direction is each in?

Since the direction of the magnetic field on the opposite sides of a wire are opposite in direction, shouldn't the field at one of those points be equal and opposite of the field at the other?

The answer to your question is yes! To clarify, however, this would be an effect in the region x<0 and y>0.
