A 2 m tall basketball player must make a shot from half court. The ball is released at an angle of 30 degrees above the horizontal. What must the initial speed of the ball by to make the shot?

Should I just use the range equation?

If the ball is being released from a different height than the net stands, then you can't use the formula for the maximum range. Use your ordinary kinematic equations to find the initial speed.
